How do you bloggers do it?

I love blogging.  I love reading others' blogs.  I love meeting people, connecting with people, learning about people.

But I have to ask...  how do you bloggers do it?

I feel like there are not enough hours in the day to blog and to read others' blogs (and comment, of course!).  And my blog is SO not professional compared to the many that I read.  I feel like I squeeze in time in five minute spurts throughout the day.  I want an extra few hours to catch up on the many posts that I still have in my "to read" file and I need time to prepare my posts for this week (I'm writing this at 9:54pm Monday night...and I don't like not having my posts for the week at least started during the weekend before).

I had a completely different post planned for today, but it just didn't happen.  It's in the works, though, but I definitely need some advice about this blogging thing.

Those of you who are regular bloggers, please tell me: how do you get it all done?  Are you on a specific schedule?  Do you plan it all out?  Do you do it when you can throughout the day like I do?  I feel like I need a better system, and I don't want something I truly enjoy to stress me out.  Any suggestions would be helpful!

  1. Hi BB. I am not a blogger but I enjoy reading your and many other blogs. I appreciate the time, thought, and love that goes into each of your posts. You don't come across "braggy" or " preachy" but more like a friend saying "hi this is what's going on with me". I love that you reply to yiur comments... You're doing great. Thank you!

    1. Aw, thanks, Laurie. That means a lot. I know my blog is not "up to par" in comparison to so many, but it's just a fun hobby for now. I know I could do a lot better if I had more time, but that's hard with a crazy five-year-old running around! I don't know how people with many children keep up with their blogs! I am amazed.
I appreciate your support and I always love reading your comments. Thanks for being a loyal reader!! :-)

  2. I don't even have kids and I sometimes feel the same way! For me, I don't really plan things on week nights, my fiance and I have always been homebodies. (Again, if I had a kid this wouldn't be an option!) I also use weekend mornings before Michael wakes up since I'm always up before him...and any other weekend down time we may have.

    1. Yes - any down time has now become "blog time!" :-) I like working in the early mornings, too, although it doesn't always happen!

  3. I just started blogging as well. I had 14 posts done and written before I even released my blog. Then I try to come up with 3 new "blogspiration" ideas every day. I keep an old-school yellow legal pad with all my blogspiration and my photo to-dos and then throughout the week, I'll have at least 5 posts to release. On top of that, I'll come up with 3 ideas each day, not neccessarily write 3 posts, just come up with post ideas. I try to write at least two posts a day, and I save the weekends for photo taking, while trying to squeeze in video shoots and random photos throughout the week.
All I can really say is that it's a huge undertaking, but if you're writing about something you enjoy, just enjoy it!

  4. Omg I'm a TERRIBLE blogger for this reason! I have all of these ideas but then I can never seem to find the time to set aside to actually write all those posts... one day.

  5. I've heard about this schedule thing and I tried to do scheduled posts but life very often gets in the way so I'm more of a 'go with the flow' blogger these days ;)

  6. You're not alone! I have 3 kids, well, ok, one is 21 and out of the house so I only have 2 at home, but finding time between the kids, family life, etc is hard. Some things I have found helpful for me is keeping a list of post ideas. When something pops into my head, I write the idea down on the list (my list is 3 pages long right now). I also keep an editorial calendar, which sounds fancy but it's just a monthly planner calendar. I pencil in all my post ideas for the month if I can, but at least for 2 weeks. That way, I kinda have a "to do" list of which posts are coming up, and what I need to do in order to get them published. If I am 1 week ahead of schedule, it's amazing, but more often than not, I am writing, editing or tweeking a couple of days before the post goes live. Also, I don't know if you have this option, but i find I can get a lot done away from the house. I go to our local library where it is nice and quiet. Hope these help, but you're doing great!
