Lag

The lack of a post yesterday was due to the craziness that was this week.  I have been getting up super early and going to bed super late, and I just can't seem to catch up.  It's like jet lag without the jet part.

So I guess it's just lag.

So I found this, and it pretty much explains what my problem is:

I guess it's been extra difficult because we're in transition mode here.  Summer is almost over, my son has to be up early for kindergarten camp, I have a million things to do to prepare for my new position, and my laundry pile is never-ending (as I mentioned earlier this week).

I went in to my new school this past week in an effort to familiarize myself with the space.  It's a beautiful library; in fact, the school won a grant last year from Crayola, so Crayola employees came in and gave the library a colorful makeover (pictures to come soon!).  The only bad thing is that there is stuff EVERYWHERE.  The woman who retired kept everything... and I mean everything.  I came across gradebooks of hers from, like, 25 years ago.  It's bad.  And I just can't work or think with clutter and junk all over, so I have a lot of work to do to prepare for the school year.  I do have a little office of my own, but that's a mess, too.  There are books and papers piled all over, and I found dead stinkbugs and mouse turds in some of the drawers.  Awesome.  Needless to say, I'm Lysoling everything.

Anyway, my point is that I have lag.  And I don't like it.

I wake up every morning needing a few more hours of sleep, and I vow that "I'm going to bed early tonight."

Then that said "tonight" comes, I put my son to bed around 8:30, and I'm not tired.  Well, I sort of am.  I'm too tired to get any of the work done that I need to get done, but I'm not too tired to sit on the couch and just veg.  I catch up on some blogs, watch a little reality TV, and just come down from the high of the day.  Before I know it, it's almost midnight.  Then I'm up a few hours later and the whole cycle begins again.

I know I need to go to bed earlier, but I also treasure my "free time" at night when I don't have to play Batman or Ninja Turtles or Ninjago.

Any suggestions?

What time do you go to bed?  Do you wake up early or late?  What works for you?  I'm always curious about others' schedules.  Please share!

  1. I totally hear you. It's 9pm, Annabelle is in bed, I should really go to bed knowing I'll be up a ton through the night but instead, I'm watching tv and playing on the computer...

    1. I'll be kicking myself in the butt when I have to get up at 7 with only a few short hours of sleep

    2. Okay, so I'm not the only crazy one! I don't know why we do this to ourselves. Isn't this the definition of insanity? :-)

  2. I usually go to bed by 11 and get up at 6 on work days (during a typical week). Some days I feel great and some days I drag all day long...so I don't think I'm much help! If you find out the key, let me know!!!

    1. My only solution is coffee, coffee, coffee! And then I am ready for a nap after the caffeine wears off...
I think the key is going to bed earlier, but I don't think that's happening - ha.
