Looking Ahead to the Week

Good Monday morning!

You all know how I feel about Mondays.

There's lots to talk about today.  I have a super busy week coming up, but I'm really looking forward to it!

Tomorrow night I'm going to see Idina Menzel in concert as part of her world tour.  I love, love, love her.

Idina Menzel, or perhaps you know her as Adele Dazeem, is a huge Broadway star, has a few albums of her own, used to be married to Taye Diggs (love him, too!), but is probably most well-known for playing Elsa in Frozen.

I had gone to see Wicked on Broadway when she was in it, and the day I went her part was played by her understudy.  Let me tell you -- I was livid.  Of course, the understudy was awesome, but I was going purposely to see Idina.  (Side note: If you've never seen Wicked, you absolutely must.  I've seen it four times now and it's my all-time favorite musical!)

I was then on the hunt to see her in person.  And I almost did.

Let me tell you.

So it began when my husband and I went into NYC to see Of Mice and Men when James Franco was in it.  I wanted to see it for two reasons:

1)  I've taught that book to my high schoolers about 4,593 times and it's seriously one of my favorites.  I find something new in it every time I read it.

2)  Um, James Franco.

After the show, I - of course - wanted to wait by the stage door to see Jimmy.  My husband could not understand why I needed to see him after we just saw him on stage for the past two and a half hours.

Men.  They just don't get it.

So we ended up leaving and walking to Port Authority because we had to catch a bus.  Well, wouldn't you know, the show that Idina was in at the time had also let out and there was a crowd at the stage door waiting for her to exit.  Well, if I couldn't wait to see James, then I was going to see my girl Idina.

I had a great spot in the crowd, and I made my husband get in a position on some steps to take pictures for me.  We waited... and waited... and waited... but it was getting late and we eventually had to leave to catch our bus or we would have missed it.  I was SO bummed.

I swear - Idina is trying to escape me.  Not this time, Idina.  Not this time.  I have my ticket and I will be there!  (I know... I should just "let it go" already.  Ha.  Get it?  "Let it Go"?  I crack myself up.)

Oh, and I just have to tell you this quick story.  So years ago when my husband and I were dating, we went to see Rent on Broadway.  Drew Lachey (formerly of the boy band 98 degrees and later a winner on Dancing with the Stars) was playing the lead.

Before the show started, my husband used the bathroom.  No big deal, right?  So we settle in and the show starts.

But wait.  The show was only like 8.7 seconds in and my husband turns to me and says, "I just peed next to that guy."

"Which guy?" I asked.

"That guy," he said, pointing at Drew Lachey on stage.

I was like, "Excuse me?  Yeah.  Okay.  Sure."

He says, "No, I'm serious.  We walked in together and he said, 'Hey, how's it going?' to me and then we peed side-by-side."

I was like, "How could you not know that was Drew Lachey?!"

My husband.  I love him, but he disappoints me at times like this because I am a celebrity freak.

Well, at least they shared a moment.

Later this week, I'm headed to BlogHer '15 in NYC!  I'm so excited.  I know absolutely no one who is going, but that's okay.  I'll make friends.  (I hope.)

Gwyneth Paltrow is going to be one of the keynote speakers there, and although I am not the hugest fan of hers at times because of certain things she says, I do admire her work.  Model and activist Christy Turlington will also be there, along with CNN's Soledad O'Brien.

My friends who I'll be hanging with later this week:

I mean, obviously I'll fit right in with them.

But I think one of the best parts will be the closing party.  It's sponsored by McDonald's and Nick Cannon and Boyz II Men will be performing.

So basically I'll be enjoying a Big Mac and an Oreo frappé while listening to "I'll Make Love to You."  Is that hysterical or what?!

I hope you have as great of a Monday as Mondays can be.
