My $5 Walmart Find & a New Night Cream

I would not consider myself a Walmart shopper.  In fact, I used to hate Walmart with a passion.  (Now I just dislike it immensely for a whole slew of reasons, but that's a post for another day.)  I don't go there unless I absolutely have to, and this past Friday was one of those days.  I just had to grab a few small items and somehow I found myself browsing in their jewelry aisle.

I know what you're thinking... jewelry?  At Walmart?  Yes, friends.  Jewelry at Walmart.  What can I say?  I gravitate towards any kind of jewelry.  I don't discriminate.  Plus, to me, cheap = better.

Those of you who know me know that I like big jewelry.  While I enjoy the smaller, delicate pieces of jewelry that have been making a comeback lately, I just can't stay away from the big (and sometimes even gaudy) stuff.  I am an accessories freak.  They truly can make or break an outfit.  One of my particular loves is a statement necklace because it, well, makes a statement.

And I found one at Walmart.  And I love it.  And it was five dollars.  WHAT?!?  Oh, yeah.  Five bucks.

There were only two of these necklaces left, and I scooped up one of them.

Believe me, folks, I was surprised to find such a cool piece at Walmart to add to my necklace collection, and the cheap price tag makes me love it even more.  I think it'd look great with a gray or black tee, but can you imagine it with coral or cobalt blue?  I'm excited just thinking about all of the great ways to style it.

THEN...as if Walmart didn't do enough for me already, I somehow ended up with a new beauty product find in my cart.  I swear it was a necessary one, though, and it was another fabulous deal!

See, I've known for a while now that I need to add a night cream to my skincare routine.  Right now, I just use my day moisturizer both morning and night, but now that I'm in my 30s, I've come to the realization that I need some preventative care for wrinkles.  Night creams can be VERY expensive, and - being as cheap as I am - I knew I wanted one that didn't break the bank.

Here is what I was looking for in a night cream:

1)  It has to produce results.

I know results don't happen overnight, but I wanted to see that it was helping in some way over the span of a few months.

2)  It has to be light and non-greasy.

I have combination skin that leans more towards the oily side, so I definitely didn't want something heavy that made me look greasy.  About a year ago, I had tried one from Oil of Olay since I like their day moisturizer (I talked about it back here), but I HATED it.  It was super thick and heavy, and I didn't like the scent because it lingered (which leads me to my next requirement...).

3)  It has to either be unscented or have a super light, refreshing smell.

Since my pregnancy, I have the nose of a dog.  Seriously.  My heightened sense of smell started in month 1 of my pregnancy and never went away.  I mean, my nose works so well that I can smell my husband's farts before they come out of his you-know-what.  (I'm not kidding.  It's become a point of contention in our marriage.)  Anyway, because I'm so sensitive to scents, I need a cream that isn't overpowering.

So began my hunt.

My son was at preschool so I actually had time to read labels in the beauty aisle instead of just grabbing a bottle that he likes because it's blue.  (Seriously, though, I am reconsidering his method.  I had no clue how many different types of serums, lotions, and creams there could be in one aisle.  It's overwhelming, really.)

After perusing the possibilities, I finally decided on one from Pond's.  This is the one I came home with:

It was a little less than nine dollars AND came with a free sample of a dark spot corrector.  Double bonus.  I figured it was worth a shot.  I haven't used any Pond's products in a really long time, but I don't remember why I stopped.  Plus, several other bloggers have recently mentioned their newfound love for this brand.

I've only used it for four days so far, but I like it.  I don't know if it's producing results yet, obviously, but it isn't greasy at all and it has a soft smell that doesn't linger... so 2 out of my 3 requirements are met, with 1 pending.

Do you have any other recommendations for a good night cream?  I'd love to hear!  Please leave a comment below if you do, and I'll keep you posted on my trial with this one.
